The West of England Cavalier King Charles Club saw the light of day in the early sixties.  It was a seed planted by a small band of ladies in the West Country. A few classes of Cavaliers were included at the Bath and West Peke club show. Whilst at this show, two ladies, Mrs Burroughs and Mrs Murray managed to persuade enough people to become founder members and thus in 1962 "The West of England Cavalier Club" was born.

Mrs Burroughs went on to be the first Hon. Secretary and Mrs Murray, the Chairman. These were very strong and determined ladies and it was due to their hard work and foresight that the club has such strong foundations today

In 2007 the club celebrated it's Ruby Anniversary Championship Show.  To commemorate this event we produced a Year Book, given free to all our members, with photos of all the Best in Show winners plus articles from our two judges Maurene Milton and Molly Coaker. Copies of this are still available from the treasurer.   A celebration cake and a glass of bubbly was enjoyed by all and special rosettes donated from the USA were awarded to the top winners.

It was with great sadness towards the end of last year that we said goodbye to someone whose name is synonymous with Cavaliers and the West of England ...Mrs Molly Coaker. Her Homerbrent affix was famous throughout the world not only in our breed but also in Japanese Chins. Many of today's top Cavalier kennels are based on her breeding and there can be few cavaliers of today that do not contain a Homerbrent dog somewhere in their pedigrees.

. Molly owned and/or bred 29 UK Champions and Ch. Homaranne Caption, bred by daughter Anne and owned and handled by Molly, sired 16 UK Champions, the breed record for a Cavalier stud dog that he still holds today. 22 other champions were also sired by Homerbrent dogs. Molly was a staunch supporter of the West of England Club and always attended our shows. She will be greatly missed by us all.

It is our turn to host the Combined Cavalier Club Championship Show on 20th August and we are dedicating this show to Molly and her Homerbrent dogs. . This will be a very special event. Jenny Howden from Australia, has offered to donate sashes for the principal winners and there will be other specials on offer including a Homerbrent Memorial Booklet for every exhibitor.

We hope to hold another silent auction in aid of our Health Fund so if anyone has items they would like to donate please speak to Jackie Ward. 01749 812773. Following the show there will be a Hog Roast and Live Entertainment with something very special from Dennis Holmes who is an accomplished musician, followed by an excellent duo where we can all dance the night away!! There will be no bar but you are welcome to bring your own tipple to add to the enjoyment of the evening. The show will be held in conjunction with the Cavalier Club Open Show weekend at Holt Heath, Worcester. Caravans are welcome as there are good facilities and electric hook-up. Please speak to David Moger 01989 780200 or 0770 3344450 0r email david@gayhalo to book a pitch. We look forward to seeing you all there!

The club has a hard working and dedicated committee who will strive to do their best for their members and for the good of the breed.

In 2012 we celebrate our Golden anniversary. Events for this very special occasion are at the planning stage at the moment and as plans are finalised the details will be published here.
