The West Of England Rescue and Welfare

The West of England rescue covers quite a wide area. It includes Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and parts of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. They are a very hard working band of dedicated people led by our rescue co-ordinator Miss Gillian Greenall.

Helpers are always needed. Gillian has to cover many miles to collect dogs and if anyone can help in any way she is always grateful for the offer. If you need to re-home your dog or would like to give a loving home to one of our rescue dogs please contact

A Ray of Sunshine”

During the last year 16 Cavaliers have been rehomed from Cornwall,  Dorset, Wilts and Wales.  This is an increase of seven Cavaliers over the previous year.  Besides the well-known reasons for rehoming, i.e. owners going abroad or going into Care Homes, we now have people who love their dogs but who are finding their overall upkeep difficult to meet.

In this period when we are hearing about so many acts of cruelty to animals, I find it very heartening to have received over 100 phone calls from people wanting a Rescue Cavalier.  I am going to let the story of “Chloe” stand for all the brave and lovely Cavaliers rescued this year.

Chloe (ruby) came from Wales.  She was going to be put to sleep due to chronic skin problems.  The vet asked whether I could find her a new home.  Alison and Phil took her on despite all her allergies.  They wrote to me last November with the happy news that Chloe’s skin allergy seemed to have completely gone and she had happily settled down as “top dog” over the two Cocker Spaniels Sam and Roary.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is to receive all the letters of news and to know how much happiness is being shared between new owners and their lucky dogs.  Alison and Phil sent me a Christmas card with the lovely words “Thank you so much for our Little Ray of Sunshine!”

Gillian Greenall  (Welfare Officer)

Gillian and her band of helpers work tirelessly throughout the year to rescue and rehome any cavalier, liked Charlie pictured here, that needs their help.  I think I speak for all when I say what a wonderful job they do.  It is much appreciated by all.  Thank you Gillian from all the committee and all the members.
